|
|
Hello, all. I just installed my new NEC DVD 2100 burner onto a Win XP platform (with Service Pack 2), and I thought it went well. However, when I tried burning my first DVD, I couldn't do it! Additional checks established that Windows somehow recognized my device as only a reader, not a reader/writer! I mean, WTF!? It says R/W not only on the box, but on the device itself. I tried reinstalling it, but with the same result! What do I do here!? Please help, thanks.

That's just weird. What model does XP report, not the same one you really have I assume? You'll probably have to install the drivers manually. Just download them from the manufacturer's site, save to HD, and uninstall the device. Then add it manually, without allowing the plug'n'play routine to take over. Specify the driver location, and you should have the correct device installed. Still, if this doesn't work (and I expect it will), you might have really been sold a reader instead of a burner. Tough luck.
