I've been getting the following error for quite some time now, but since I could just ignore and skip it to load Windows, it's what I have been doing:

TQ100-23 Samsung SV1203N Ultra DMA mode-5, S.M.A.R.T. Capable and status BAD.

Now my HDD finally died, and I guess it's my fault I didn't backup before it happened. Is there any chance of restoring the data from it, or would it be a waste of time to even try at this point?

The latter, sorry. The "SMART status BAD" message is just a warning telling you that a complete hard drive failure is imminent, it's basically telling you to back up before it's too late. Now it's too late.
I guess you could pay some hi-tech data recovery service to try and restore your data, but odds are slim IMO.
