There are a various means and various levels of protection that can be achieved. I suppose you use windows OS, and will tell you what I know about it. First level would be to manage different windows (xp) accounts for each person using computer. You probably already use this feature if using XP. This is not much of security, but can be improved if HD is formatted ad NTFS by mean of encryption. This way it is much more difficult for someone to access your data. Your encryption key is related to your logon account. To protect all the data on separate HD is somehow more expensive. New windows Vista OS has built-in feature for HD data protection that requires special hardware support. You can find more about this at Microsoft.com. And there are some interesting tools, not expensive, to irreversibly delete confident data on your HD, since simple deletion process makes it possible to undelete. Webmasterfree.com has a listing of such tools named Secure File Deletion. This is a short introduction on this subject you need to search internet for more info.
