I am using a Seagate external drive, and I have a little problem with it. It seems that it cant be locked. I cannot set up the password or anything. I mean, I set up the hard drive lock in Windows, but nothing. It only locks up my internal drive, external is available for everyone. I dont want anyone to access it. How can I accomplish this, without having to buy a new piece of software? Hard drive is connected through USB cable, although it has a firewire cable as well. Should I change a cable? And if you know the answer, how can I lock up only few folders, you know, shared folders?

Well, you set up only the internal drive lock. That doesnt consider an external drives. Go to my computer and select you external dive. What does it says? Can you see a password icon somewhere? If yes, click it, and set up your password. I forgot to mention that first you have to right click on drive, and then go to properties. If you cant see any of these options, something is missing. Which option did you use to lock up your internal drive? Are you completely sure that its locked? To check this, log off, and then log in as a different user. If you are able to see the contents of a device, then you didnt lock it. Check your file system and see if it is a NTFS. If not, convert it with a Partition magic. Or go to the command prompt and type " convert c: /fs:ntfs:. Once you have converted your file system, you are ready to use lock settings. Click the folder you want to protect and see if there is a encrypt feature. Select it and select your password. That should be it. Log off and check if everything is correct.
