Hello, all. I have a hardware question, sort of newbie-like if you don't mind. How would I go about adding an extra 256 MB RAM (taken from a defunct desktop) to an old laptop, specifically my HP Pavilion ZE4500? I ask because I heard that not just any kind of module can just be slotted in, that I need RAM specifically designed for my laptop model. Is this true? Do I need to buy from HP, or what? I just thought I'd ask around before actually opening the thing…

Well yes, it's true that memory modules for laptops aren't standardized in the way they are for desktops. The safest route would be to get a module with a sticker saying "suited for… (model name)". If that's not an option, go to a laptop db site, such as crucial.com, and search for your laptop model… you should be able to find a list of matching RAM models.
