This laptop has been working perfectly for years, never so much as a glitch, but now it just went dead on me all of a sudden! It froze while I was working, showed some error message I didn't bother to read (dumb, I know), and I had to restart. After that, it won't boot up, it just shows a blue screen real quick and reboots again, offering the safe mode prompt. (Choosing safe mode didn't change a thing, though.) It's an XP machine, FWTW. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that BSOD stays on the screen for a bit longer so you could read the error code and either post it or look it up on support.microsoft.com. To do that, you'll need to disable automatic restart on system failure in BIOS. It does let you get into BIOS, doesn't it?
