Hi, I can't seem to check my Gmail reliably with Firefox, because it times out more often than not. Sometimes it asks me to go to "simple html view" or something like that, but that doesn’t work either. Then again, sometimes it logs in just like that, and everything's OK. I assume this isn't normal behavior? When I was on Opera, this also happened sometimes, but not this often, I think.

I doubt that this is a browser issue… What sort of connection do you have? If it's dial-up, no wonder gmail servers are hard to negotiate through. The most obvious solution would be, since you're using Mozilla software anyway, to download Thunderbird and use it as your mail client to keep your webmail offline. Gmail has a page explaining how to set Thunderbird to work with its mail service.
