I have installed Ubuntu Linux on my old HP computer. Now, I can not get my modem connected to internet. I have searched for modem but Ubuntu gives me a message that it can not authenticate modem device. Before Ubuntu I had Windows 98SE on this computer and I did not remember what internal modem it has recognized. How can I get modem to connect on internet?

First, you will have to find out what modem device you have. It is obviously, so called, WinModem designed with Windows operating system in mind. When you find out modem brand you will have to search for drivers on Internet. Generally, if your modem is not supported by Linux you will not be able to activate it. If you find drivers then follow instructions in read me file because every driver has some specifics during install procedure.
