My new video card is malfunctioning horribly. At first glance, it looks as if everything is order, it installs OK and the device manager says it's "functioning properly". However, as soon as I try to play a video, or start a game with at least some D3D or OpenGL content, it starts freezing the system at random, then continuing, only to freeze again. It all ends in a BSOD, of course. The message report says something about "nv4_disp.dll" causing system instability. The same repeats at reboot. I have the latest drivers and DirectX version. Any suggestions?

Is the fan on the card working continuously? If not, it may be overheating, which usually results in a crash. Then, what are your full system specs? Well, not really full, just the relevant – board, CPU, RAM, and most importantly, the PSU. It could be that your PSU is just too weak to support all your hardware, and that new card may have just pushed it over the top.
