Hello. I'm thinking about getting a laptop specifically for gaming purposes, but I don't have much experience with laptops in general, so I'm looking for advice. What would you suggest? A Dell, a Sony, what? I was looking at a Gateway NX560 the other day, how does that sound? I would love to fit everything within $3,000, if that's possible, but I wouldn't mind spending a little more if I feel it's worth it. Also, are Toshiba laptops any good for gaming purposes? I know they're expensive, that's for sure… TIA for any advice you may have…

You're putting way too much importance on brands, it's not like Dell makes only laptops for surfing, Sony for gaming, etc… Different builds are for different purposes, regardless of brands. That Gateway does look decent enough, but you may want to scan through some more review sites before making that decision, you can fit better ones into that budget. Also, I'm not sure why you feel Toshiba is much more expensive then some other brands, but your budget, your call.
