I have the TI4200 card, and all the latest drivers installed. It's been working OK for some time, but it's recently started to show weird screen and color … distortions, corruptions, I don't know quite what to call them. A friend just told me it's called "artifacting", the thing that's happening. I tried tweaking the configuration for hardware acceleration to the best of my ability, but nothing works. What else can I try, before I return it?

Artifacts usually result from overheating. It's a common enough issue with video cards today, even if you're not overclocking yours (and I'm assuming you're not, judging from what you've told us). The solution – get some additional fans (and clean out the ones already on it), and also apply thermal paste to the cooling surface. If you don't know how to perform this operation yourself, find someone who can, it shouldn't be too hard.
