I'm having difficulties trying to update the firmware on a G3 333 iMac. It's currently running 9.2, and when I try to update to 10-something, the process breaks, and freezes. It usually doesn't show any sort of message, but this one time I got told the system can't recognize the firmware I'm trying to install. I've got the updates downloaded from Apple, so this isn't a connection issue. Any thoughts?

That iMac is an old model, and not all can run OS X. You should check out the documentation at the Apple site, see what it says about newest supported versions you can use. Of course, you could just try updating it in smaller increments, going from 9.2 to 9.3 first, and then one step at a time until you run into trouble, at which point you downgrade back to the final firmware version that installed OK.
