Free software for testing my RAM

I think I am experiencing possible Ram failing or something. Before I make any repairing move I would like to test my components so I could know for sure what I am dealing with here. I am wondering is there any free software which could help me to test current condition of my RAM. It would be nice to share your suggestions with me here.

I must confess I never performed any RAM testing in my whole PC life, heh. What I heard is that you must pay attention what you are doing during that process so you dont mess up the system for good at least that is what people told me. I have no idea what OS you are using and does that matters which software you need to use, but I am guessing not. There is some DocMemory RAM Diagnostic Software v1.45a but need some membership thing I never checked and on http://www.freshdevices.com/memory.html apparently you can get some software for free with leaving some info of yours. On the other hand you could check what is offered on Microsoft site http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp, and people are recommending www.memtest86.com which is not free one but cheap. Dont know if others have some better suggestions.
