Hi there. I have ran on the information where stands that some dude is currently fighting for his freedom and life just because of one small move he made with FreeBSD. The name it self is more than surprisingly clear, but it seems like it isn't for everyone. By the way, what kind of parties involved their hands into all of this?

Ports are all about. There are some particular ports on this operating system and there is copyright placed on them, because of some reason. I have heard that the original source tarballs are protected and further spread of such code is highly prohibited. Who and why is being charged, I don't know.

I just can't find a clue about what you guys are talking about here. The BSD project is completely free of charge, and as such, there is no anything forbidden. Unless something really didn't changed in the meantime. But, today, when everything is possible, why would this be an exception?
