I have a fast computer, it¡¦s a Athlon XP Barton 2600+ (lots of friends tell me it¡¦s the best 32bit AMD), 512mb of RAM and a Geforce 6600! However, my pc is very slow, I mean, booting up takes long time, and starting programs/games is slow, too. Now, a friend told me that my hard disk might be fragmented and that causes the problem. Is this serious, and can this really be the problem? How should I solve it?

What you described is a common symptom of fragmentation. Now, you haven¡¦t mentioned if you installed/uninstalled lots of programs lately, it¡¦s when the fragmentation takes place. Fighting against it isn¡¦t hard, just go to start„³programs„³accessories„³system tools„³disk defragmenter. It is important to shut down other programs while defragmenting.
