Hello! I have windows XP operating system for two years. I have never formatted my hard drive before, but I think that I am ready now, so, I am planning to do that. But, my friend told me that formatting will prevent recovery of data on it. I think that he is wrong, but, for any case I want to check with you.

Hello! Your friend is right! If you format your hard drive, which means that you will erase all of your data from it. Before you format it, if you need some files for further use, I suggest you to make backup. After you make it, you can format hard drive and install wanted operating system. Hope this helps you!
