| Would you guys recommend it? I mean, if I wasn't clear enough, would you recommend Ubuntu as the first distribution of Linux for someone who's been working only with Windows before? Or is it too much to cut one's teeth on? And why, please state your reasons, too. Thanks a lot! |

| Well, in theory, no. People generally don't recommend Ubuntu for a first taste of Linux, especially for ex-Windows users. The popular opinion suggests that something a little less "command line", or a little more like Windows is easier to swallow. Mandriva or Xandros, in other words. However, personally, I disagree. I went with Ubuntu when I tried Linux for the first time (though I was on Mac, not PC). I won't say it wasn't hard, but I learned some useful things while getting used to it. |
