Since I've switched from IE to Firefox I've been mostly happy with it, but recently this problem has started to appear: When I leave the computer with Firefox on for a long period of time (several hours), I often return only to find Firefox locked and not responding. I close it, but when I try to restart, it says that Firefox is still running and I can't start another copy until I kill the first one...WTF?!

Programs in general, not just Firefox, can sometimes have this ugly tendency of holding on after you think you'd exited them. They still run in the background, wasting your resources, and like in this case, preventing you form starting them up from scratch. To dismiss them for good, go Ctrl-Alt-Del and find the "firefox.exe" entry in the list of processes there. Once you mark it, click "end task".
