When I open a pdf page in Firefox, it starts up the Adobe plugin, and eventually opens the file, but it takes forever! I've noticed Firefox opens some other pages slowly as well, but these were usually connection problems. Pdf pages, however, open up terribly slow each and every time. Is this a bug, or what?

Technically, a PDF file shouldn't be called a page, but that's beside the point. The reason for the high load times is that Adobe Reader tries to cram in a lot of plugins you don't really need while viewing the file from the browser. The Firefox FAQ mentions a solution, but I would suggest you try the extension called PDF Download instead.
