Recently I did some backtracking through all the spyware and related nastiness that got accumulated on my GF's machine. Just general maintenance, scanned it, cleaned it up, etc. However, now her browser (Firefox) won't connect automatically to the net when she starts it up. I tried fiddling with the network settings but they were all already on auto-connect. I'm at my wits end here. Any help?

Well, you should really give us more info than that. What platform is she using, what OS, what kind of connection does she have? For now, I'll just go ahead and assume it's a Windows box: Go into Connections in the Control Panel and change "never dial a connection" to "dial connection ". Then go into Firefox, Tools, Options, Advanced, Network, and click Settings. Do the same thing there, set what connection to use. See if that works.
