Firefox adware protection doesn't work for me! I have the Ad-block extension installed, and it does look like it's blocking the adds, but actually it's not! It says pop-up blocked and everything, but it looks like it still does get through even though it's not shown, because a recent scan showed like a million adware programs! I'm using version 1.5.0.6 of Firefox, should I maybe switch to a previous one, because I don't think I had this problem before.

Looks like you're confusing the issue. The plug-in for Firefox that you have is apparently doing what it's supposed to, and that is blocking pop-up ads. It's not supposed to block add-ware intrusion, so don't blame it for not doing that. There's a difference between an ad and adware. Most adware is installed when visiting or downloading from unreliable sites, and to stop that you need a good firewall that scans for malware of all sorts, including adware. There's nothing your browser can do about it.
