Hi! I am a NetBios users so I was wondering what the major myths about file sharing are. You know, like printer sharing would cause your system to be unstable. Stuff like that. And above all, what is true about torrents sharing via local network. And is it possible for Kaspersky to block the user rights over the intranet. By the way, I am using netgear router for a local network and I need to explain this to my employees. How to disable file sharing on a tcp level.

| I think that there is no way you could possibly disable file sharing on TCP level. It is one of the basic levels of networking so it is very hard to affect it. As far as I know, major myth is unsafety. Like if you share your printer you are the target for hackers. The truth is that you are absolutely safe as long as you are using firewall. Then the myth about NETBIOS password. It is said that BIOS is easy to break. The fact is that you are the one who control potential risk. So, be careful when you choose installation features. If you are in the large network group you are extremely unsafe and easy to attack. And if you change your working group you will lower the risk. Nothing can be further from the truth. Workgroups are controlled by administrators, and that means he will choose if he want to protect you. |
