Hello, I'm looking for some advice re. connecting home computers for the purpose of file sharing. I'm already using a wireless modem to share an internet connection, but I'd also like to share the use of certain local files and programs. Is that possible, and how? Will I need to get a router, or can I get the modem to do it somehow?

It depends, mostly on the specifics of the modem and the networking software you're using, which you didn't state. Generally speaking, you should be able to turn on (in XP) the "file and printer sharing" options, and use the existing wireless connection. However, buying a router would be a good idea, because it may simplify this process, and also offer extra security between machines (assuming you need that).
