Which brand would you guys recommend, as a laptop accessory? I've never used one, so I don't really know what to look for. Regarding capacity, I'd prefer something in the 250 GB range. Both FireWire and USB connections are acceptable. Please don't just say "xyz is the best", explain why you think so. Thanks for your time,

Well, I can only offer you a choice by personal preference, with my only arguments being hardware problems (or lack thereof) that I've had with these. First of all, avoid jokes like Toshiba and Western Digital – never saw an ExHD from those guys that compared to the competition. Now, I myself wouldn't go for Maxtor either, but some people say they're satisfied, so I don't know. The one that I've been happy with was Seagate (don't have the model number on hand now); great performance, even better reliability.
