I have reinstalled system and now I am not able to see my external Maxtor 120GB hard drive. When I plug it in USB 2.0 port computer recognizes that USB mass storage device has been attached but I can not see its icon in My computer nor in device manager. Only difference between this system and the one before reinstall is that I had Windows XP Professional before and now I have the same operating system but with Service Pack 2. Any suggestions?
Well, these things can happen more often then you can imagine. External USB hard drives are not storage media for important data. You could try to connect this external hard drive to another computer and see what happens. It is probably not going to work there, also. I think your hard drive (or at least enclosure) is faulty and needs to be replaced. I hope you still have a warranty.
