Hello, I have an Excel situation that I hope you can help me resolve. When I try to save a file I am editing, I get an error message saying something along the lines of [filename].xls cannot be accessed or is not responding… So, I'm forced to save the file under a different name. To avoid confusion (I'm not the only one editing the file), I need to delete the original file and rename the new one. However, someone usually forgets to rename, which results in lost changes at the next edit. This workaround obviously isn't perfect, so I'd like to tackle the problem itself, if possible. What could prevent the file from being saved under its original name, and how do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance.

It looks like Excel thinks the file is being used by something else at the same time. You need to make sure there are no background applications with access to the file, possibly even an earlier instance of Excel. Try closing Excel, then using Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to see what else is working. If you still see Excel in the task list, close it and see if the problem persists. BTW, is the system always on or to you reboot it periodically?
