I'm having trouble connecting to the internet on myG4. I have a small home network set up through a gateway router, and it worked fine until about a week ago, when we had a major storm in the area. Since then, the G4 machine refuses to connect to the 'net, even though the other machines work fine. I thought it wasn't possible that a power surge would leave the router functioning, but wreck the Ethernet card on one machine in the network. Is it? Possible, I mean? If that's not it, what else could be the cause?

Don't know if it's possible or not, but sounds somewhat unlikely to me. Rather than destroying your network card, I expect the power surge messed with one or more ports on the router. Did you try connecting the troublesome machine to a different port, preferably one currently used by machines that do have net access? If it still doesn't work, then yes, you'll probably repair it by replacing the Ethernet card.
