I made a network with my and my father’s PC. They are connected by crossover cable. While my father’s PC is acting normally and recognizes it’s networked, my PC gives me the message that the cable isn’t plugged in…and it sure is! And then when I unplugged the cable my father’s PC still acted as if it’s plugged in! What’s this all about? How can I make this work? Both PCs are working under WinXP professional.
It seems to me that you’re new to networks so it might be that you’ve done something wrong which is normal. Are the lights on your network card lighting up? I think you might try swapping the cards or changing the pci slot the card is in. If this doesn’t help, you could try using other cable. But first you might want to go trough the setup process once again, just to make sure you didn’t make any mistakes there.
