I have been using the internet for last four years and everything worked fine. However, until four months ago, I could not defend from all sorts of viruses, spywares and adwares. I reinstalled Windows several times but it did not help me for a long. Now I got some spam that I cannot unsubscribe. Should I change my browser? A friend told me that I am a victim of email harvesting. What is that?

Email harvesting is a technique, which is used for collecting email addresses for phishing frauds. Your friend means that you have a problem with phishing scam. That is when somebody sends you demands introducing itself as some legitimate organizations to send them your information's. They may represent as your bank and ask you to send them confirmation information about your bank account. If you do that those frauders will use those information to rip off your account. About changing the IE, I am also on the Internet almost 12 hours per day, I am using Internet Explorer and I do not have any problems. By my experience, you need some anti-spyware software like SpyBot, which is completely free. Second thing you need is some good anti-virus software which is also free. I personally use AVG and I am completely satisfied. If you have Microsoft Windows XP, you also have to check do you have Service Pack 2 installed. If don't then download and install it. All those things will not slow your machine much but will give you enough protection. In addition, Mailwasher would provide best spam prevention for your machine that is possible.
