Dropped laptop, messed screen

That line just about says it all. I was stupid enough to drop my laptop, an Acer Aspire, and now it's all messed up. The system still works as if nothing had happened, mind you, but the screen I think is FUBAR: In the middle, I see only vertical white lines, and on the left side I see pretty much nothing, all black occasionally turning into a mirror replica of the right side.
What are my options here? I hear that repairing it would cost almost as much as a new laptop, if not more, is that true? Could it be that something was just knocked out of place, and I can just wedge it back in myself?

I doubt it. Try plugging in an external monitor to see if the problem persists, if it does, then it's your video card, and you can replace it easily. If it does not, than it's the laptop display in which case, yes, it's FUBAR.
