How do I do this, form a digital camera? My camera has something called a "virtual drive", nut I'm not sure what that is, and I don't think it's a CD-ROM drive. Is it possible to somehow substitute these two so that I save the pictures to a CD-ROM on my laptop? Thanks in advance, and I apologize for my ignorance…

You didn't mention what camera you have, or what laptop, but that's probably OK because the setup is the same for most of them. You're right in stating that a virtual drive is not a CD drive, but this is something that actually makes it easier for you to store the photos on your computer. You just have to connect you camera to your laptop through a USB port – you should have the connector as part of the package – and then, you will see the virtual drive as one of the laptop's drives. You can just copy the photos to another location that you want, disconnect the camera, and then burn the CD with the pictures from the laptop normally.
