I am using advanced streaming programs such as PeerStream and VideoStream. Most of the time, I am working in multicast mode, which isnt the safest one. I never thought of having some protection software, because I assume its already protected on server. Is it? My question, does PeerStream offers security? And what about other streaming programs. Are they compromise security, or that depends on your personal settings?

| Hi! I see that you are PeerStream user for along time. All of your files need to be formatted in order to have proper streaming. In some cases data flows through unsecured server, because provider wont set up the security protocols. Feel free to contact you provider, and ask them if you can install some protection on your own. Streaming software use RPT protocol which encapsulates stream files with different kinds of information. Number of suppliers is limited on the server so you are safe in case someone tries to bomb you with data. Authentication methods which are used are basic HTML verification methods, and some of the providers use xml as well. Peer-to-peer is one of the most exiting technologies in the computer world, so you should expect unauthorized users. Formats like mpeg, avi, wmv and real video are usually hard to stream. Provider offers you different kinds of solutions, like different file formats. In that case, you wont be able to use it in video software, because they cant be recognized. |
