I am running out of space on my hard drive and I decided to do a little cleaning. Looking for best candidates for deleting (large files) I found pagefile.sys that has almost 1GB. I have never placed such file on hard drive but being system file I think that windows placed it here. Is it safe to delete Page File?

No it is not safe to delete Page File. It is purposefully made a hidden and system file so it would be harder to find and be deleted by unsuspecting user. This file is very important and act as additional RAM in your system. When Windows run out of physical RAM then it uses pagefile at same way it would use additional RAM. Once again, do not delete this file.
