When I try to play any audio file, such as a WMA file, or a Winamp playlist, I get this message: "Bad directsound driver. please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration." What does this mean? The machine is a 2.6 GHz Intel, with (I think) onboard audio. Can someone help me get back my audio support?

Did you do what the message says? Reinstall the drivers for your audio device? Since it's onboard, you'll need the drivers for your motherboard, and you can get those from the manufacturer's website. If updating the drivers doesn't work, there's this thing in older versions of Winamp that you might want to try: Got to Preferences / Output / DirectSound, and click Properties (or Configuration, or whatever it's called). There, choose the right audio device from the drop-down menu, and restart.
