| I have a computer for last two years and everything worked fine. The only problem was that I have a small HDD. That is why I, yesterday, bought another bigger Hitachi HDD. My plan was to leave the system on the old HDD and move all the music and movies on the new one. However, I cannot see Hitachi HDD. When I called the seller, he told me that I should probably put my Hitachi hard drive as a slave. What he was talking about? |

| If you were not familiar with this subject, it would be the best for you to bring your computer to the hard disk seller and ask him to install it. The man is probably right. If you installed your new Hitachi hard drive on the same IDE cable with the old one, then you have to set on IDE device as master and another one as slave. Computer needs that because of its easier recognition. Is the IDE device master or slave, depends on the position of its jumper. On every IDE device (including your Hitachi HDD), you will find the instruction how to set it up as a master, slave or cable select. The last combination, cable select, means that a position on IDE cable will determine if a device will answer as a master (if he is on the farther position from the motherboard) or a slave (opposite). |
