I want to import some video material in my computer, on which I later want to work. However, I find in the computer magazines that I will need some special importing card for that. But some of the cards are with mpeg1 and some are with mpeg2 option. What is the difference between mpeg1 and mpeg2?

Mpeg1 and Mpeg2 options are the percentage of compression that your video card can apply to your video material while it will be importing it. Card with mpeg2 compression are better because it will give you smaller files for the same imported video material. Also, very important is information, is that compression hardware or software. If that is the software compression, then your card will be using the CPU of your computer for compression process. Therefore, your computer will be working much slower. Otherwise, if your card supports hardware compression that means that it has its own chip that will do the job. That means it will not reduce the performance of your machine.
