I need some help with Dell Inspirion 8600 display problems. Yesterday, during work its screen just went black. It has happened all of sudden without any prior signs. I have restarted it and hoped that this is some Windows quirk, but unfortunately it is not. After restart everything stayed black. Do you know what has happened to my laptop?

I have to inform you that, unfortunately, something is seriously broken in your laptop. It is either screen or video card (these two being the most probable causes). Connect laptop to external monitor to check if video card is dead. If you can see picture on external monitor the laptop screen is broken and you will have to replace it.

I had the exact same issue just come up on my Dell 8600 laptop. Did you ever determine the cause of the problem?

Hello,

I got a similar issue two months ago: screen got wired while reading email, then after reboot, no display showed up.
I thought it was the video card, I just bought a new one but it's not the case: looks like it's due to the keyboard which died and makes some keys "always down", resulting in the display not showing up or BIOS "loading" bar hanging at about 1 fifth.
I removed the keyboard and I'm now using it with an external keyboard, but sometimes the BIOS doesn't like that and still hangs at 1 fifth of the loading bar. I'll now try with a new keyboard but this is more and more costs ...
