I have Dell Insirion 5100 with 512 MB RAM. Both memory slots are used (2 x 256 MB). I would like to upgrade RAM to 2 GB and I am planning to buy two memory stick with 1 GB RAM. I just wonder if I take both memory sticks from laptop will I loose my settings on laptop. I hope you will answer me soon.

No, you will not lose anything if you take out both memory sticks. RAM holds information only during work. Immediately after you shutdown computer or restart it all data stored in RAM is lost and RAM is cleared until another session. So, just take out those sticks and place other ones without fear in your Dell Inspirion 5100. I hope I have helped you.
