Hello. I'm completely new to computers and especially to Windows XP Home Edition. I was wondering if it was possible to delete some of the desktop files that were there by default… not the ones that I got later, the shortcuts and icons, but the ones like "My Computer", "My Documents", "Recycle Bin", etc. Just pressing delete doesn't work. Anything else I can try?

Those aren't exactly "files", but that's beside the point. The easiest way to remove them would be by right-clicking anywhere on the desktop, choose the "Arrange Icons by…" option, and then uncheck the "Show Icons on Desktop" option. However, this will hide all your desktop icons, not just the default ones. If you want just those, also right-click, choose Properties, then the Desktop tab, then Customize Desktop, and then just uncheck the ones you want (this can't remove the Recycle Bin, however).
