How should I delete temporary files? Do they really speed up browsing? If yes, I would like very much to delete temporary files because my internet has become really sluggish of late……

A: Yes, I do think they speed up browsing a little, and at the same time they cover up your browsing habits if you are big on privacy.
1) In Internet Explorer click Tools, then click 'Internet Options'.
2) Select the 'General' tab and find the 'Temporary Files' section half way down the page.
3) Click the 'Delete Files' button and in the window that opens, check the box for 'Delete all offline content'.
4) Click OK and all the files are erased.

You can also use a software to clean the temporary files as well as history, cache and index.dat. As wesely said this way you can keep you internet activities private.
I use
PC Mesh Internet and Disk Cleanup
