I am coming with defragmenting problem. Somehow when I try it starts well and then I get stuck in some part and won’t move further. It’s true that I haven’t been defragmenting for awhile but I finally clean it up so it has enough free space on PC for proper defragmenting. I am using now Windows 98 SE and don’t know what to do with it . Help please!

Defragmenting the Dick is usually done if there is 15% of free space on every partitition and had to be done from time to time ‘cause files are not always getting stored together. When you have fragmented disk, computer is working much harder trying to access to all the files that are spread all over the disk without any order. Defragmenting make then more organized and gathered. The more you are using the computer, you need to defragment more often. Usual path for this is click Start/ point to Programs/point to Accessories/point to System Tools and then click Defragmenter. Click the Settings tab, select check boxes you want (for fastest startup of programs select the first one), click OK,click on the drive you want to defragment , click Ok and then click Yes. If you have problem accomplishing this way, then try to run defrag in safe mode, by pressing the F8 key after turning on the computer and before windows loads. I can also suggest when you are defragmenting don’t use any other programs in background. If you have original Windows CD for installing then you can go to Tools\Mtsutildirectory, and right click on Defrag.inf select install and it will run defrag before everything else is loads. There are also some programs that could help your defragmenting be done better like Winme defrag, Enditall that will make sure that processes are not running in background, or Power defrag. Hope I helped a bit .
