I bought a computer few months ago. However, I recently realized that my cd rw drive does not satisfy my needs. That is why, yesterday, I bought new SATA DVD writer. However, when I plug it in my PC my Windows XP could not see it. Why is DVD writer not recognized?

First, check did you connect all the cables well. If that is not the problem, try to reconnect your SATA DVD to another SATA connector on your motherboard. Do not forget to check, do your motherboard support your type of SATA device. Your device may be SATA2 and your motherboard may support only SATA1 devices. If you find out that, the only thing you could do is to try to replace your SATA device for some with SATA1 standard. One more thing you should do is to check is your motherboard SATA support enabled in your BIOS. Maybe your MoBo needs some special additional drivers to be installed for full SATA support. If nothing of this helps, I think that your DVD RW is probably broken.
