| There are two groups that are behind DVD standards. DVD Forum for DVD-R/RW and DVD Alliance for DVD+R/RW standard. Their characteristics are, more or less, the same. DVD-R/RW is used more and almost 93 of all DVD players and DVD ROMs can read it while DVD+R/RW is lagging behind with 89. So, there is not any significant difference. Most computer DVDs (for Windows and Mac) are DVD-R/RW. Both formats have the same capacity (4.7 GB) but plus format has faster writing speed, lossless linking and drag and drop feature. On the other hand DVD- has a lot better DVD playback compatibility. DVD plus format is newer standard and they are trying to make it more compatible with computer drives. |
