I have problems with DVD CD-RW combo drive. It is not working as before. I can not write any more CD media using this drive. I have tried several burning programs like Roxio CD Creator and Ahead NERO but with no joy. On the other hand, it can read CDs and DVDs without problems. I am running Windows XP professional with Service Pack 2 installed. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Hello. When DVD CD-RW combo drive is working like this than I can safely assume that lenses are gone for good. Every device has different lenses for different operations. One for burning, others for reading different media. It looks like the one for burning is gone bad. Only option you have is to replace device because repairing it would not be wise considering current market prices for new optical devices.
