Well, you could start by telling us what make/model the routers are, and what kind of network you have.
But beyond that, what you need to keep in mind is that the secondary router usually needs to be within the same subnet as the main one, but out of the main one's DHCP range. In fact, just disable DHCP server function on the secondary router.
