| Hello. I saw a lot of discussions regarding this subject over the internet. A lot of people are talking about it, and I just dont understand what does these short acronyms means. And what is WAN by the way? If there is somebody that knows these things, who knows how to explain, I will be very grateful. I am just a little curios, because I feel a little shame about my ignorance. Thanks in advance. |

Greetings. Here I am, as your savior. It goes something like this. When you are connecting through Wide Area Network (WAN) Miniport, using PPPoE protocol, that means you are using Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet. Wide Area Network is actually the Internet. Differs from Local Area Network or LAN, which is behind the Routers gateway. Router gives access to your computer using few simple Internet Protocol rules. Router is a DSL modem or cable modem, (whatever) and it is usually connected trough the ethernet. Ethernet is a network card. One point is your PC, the other is some server. Router has Miniport. |
