I'm forced to work on this borrowed laptop until I get mine shipped from home, and it's been acting sort of strangely. It sometimes shuts down after a random period of time I've spent working, without warning of any kind. It's not the battery, because it says it's fully charged. I don't know why it's doing that. Can anyone help, please?

Well, when the battery SAYS it's full, it doesn't necessarily have to mean that it IS full. Run some diagnostics to make sure that the battery isn't really the cause. If that is verified, then look elsewhere – maybe you have Power Saving settings configured to turn off to save power after a certain interval?
