| Hello, guys. I was hoping you could help me out with this situation I heave. See, I'm trying to get this old Dell laptop working again (it's pieced together from various old, but working parts). But what happens when I turn it on is: The motherboard is on (lit) and the fans are working, but the LED lights are off, and the hard and DVD drives aren't spinning at all. I've checked, and I think everything's plugged in correctly. I don't know what else to try, any suggestions? |

| Sounds to me you have a power supply issue. To find out whether or not your power supply unit is enough for the hardware you've tacked on, you need to do this: First, remove every peripheral component, leaving only the keyboard, mouse, and monitor attached. If it starts up that way, try attaching the rest of the components and you'll find out how much is too much. Then you'll have to go out and get a new PSU to support all the components. |
