I have a weird problem on a friend's machine that I've been using for the past week or so. In brief, the computer shuts down as soon as the DSL connection to Verizon is established. Well, not always right away, but usually sometimes it keeps working for a few minutes and then shuts down. Any idea what's going on?

I think I saw someone with the exact same problem asking for help on another forum a while ago, but I can't remember exactly where, or what the solution turned out to be. In any case, I'd start looking for signs of malware infestation if I were you. Download and run HiJackThis, make a log, post it up here.
