Hello. My problem is my 5900 won't start any more. I don't think it was anything I did to it, it was working just fine one day, and the other – nothing. I can't get ti to start up the system, and I thought there was something wrong with Windows XP's boot options, but I couldn't re-install the OS, because even when I try starting up form the XP install CD, I can't. Could this be something hardware-related, and having nothing to do with the software and the programs and stuff?

Well yes, as you so eloquently put it, it's most likely not a software issue. The way you described the situation, it sounds like a battery charging / power supply problem. Did you try plugging it into the DC directly, does it work that way? If it does, then something's wrong with your battery. If it doesn't, you could try clearing the CMOS, or flashing your BIOS.
